Hand Rejuvenation

We are used to thinking that skin aging is usually more evident on a person’s face, but the neck, décolleté and especially the hands are equally visible and exposed to even more aggressive agents, which is why they also deserve special care. Since the speed and process at which hands age differs in some respects, a combination of treatments is necessary to achieve their rejuvenation.

What are the signs of aging hands?

As always, they are related to loss of volume, skin atrophy and signs of skin aging such as blemishes.

As we age (and punish our hands), the skin is dry, thinned, blotchy and the veins in the hands become more evident and marked.

Treatments to rejuvenate hands

At Antiaging Group Barcelona we are specialists in hand rejuvenation with a combined protocol of personalized treatments in a determined number of sessions and with home follow-up, obtaining the best results for our patients: hands with a young and beautiful appearance regardless of age.

Chemical peeling

Chemical peels are medical treatments that improve appearance, color and texture, blemishes, fine wrinkles, and small scars. The treatment can be performed by superficial treatments (based on salicylic or glycolic acid), in three or four sessions, or in fewer with stronger chemicals that produce a deep exfoliation.

Pulsed light

Peelings using pulsed light or IPL systems eliminate the melanin accumulated in the skin spots, achieving a rejuvenating effect on the treated skin. These technologies can be combined within the same session, in different spots. This allows us to optimize results and leave a cleaner and more beautiful skin.

Hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid, naturally present in our body, acts as a filler. Its ability to retain water and stimulate collagen synthesis makes it ideal for skin rejuvenation from the first application, as it hydrates the skin and increases tissue thickness. The results last twelve months, after which the treatment can be repeated.

Growth Factors

Those of growth factors-biostimulation are obtained from the blood itself. By means of a small extraction and subsequent centrifugation, platelet-rich plasma is obtained which, combined with hyaluronic acid and vitamin complexes, becomes a powerful tissue rejuvenator that will be infiltrated into the back of the hand.

Lipofilling

Lipotransfer, also known as lipofilling, is a treatment that consists of infiltrating fat from an area where there is an excess, to inject it back into another area of the body. The objective is to achieve an increase in volume and correct imperfections, thus rejuvenating specific areas according to the desired result.

What are the advantages of combining these treatments?

Once the appropriate treatment, recommended by the aesthetic medicine physician, has been performed, the results will be:

Frequently Asked Questions

On the one hand, the hands are one of the parts of the body most exposed to the sun’s rays, the main reason for skin aging. This photoaging is due to the skin’s exposure to ultraviolet radiation, which produces a change in components such as collagen (which provides firmness), elastin (which gives elasticity) and proteoglycans (responsible for smoothness).

Beyond that, our hands are one of our main tools for relating to the world. They are continually in use: we touch, eat, feel, work, communicate, caress, clap, wash, etc. For these reasons, we wash them more frequently, and exposure to water and products that are not always respectful of the skin also influences their premature aging. On the other hand, it is possible not to follow a cosmetic routine of moisturizing and sun protection, just as it is followed with the face and neck, which also accentuates its deterioration.

The hands are one of the most obvious areas that indicate a person’s age. With the passage of time, the skin of the hands becomes thinner and laxer. On the other hand, skin that is hydrated (and has more collagen and elastin like younger skin) looks younger and firmer.

Therefore, the results of the sum of the above-mentioned factors appear on the hands in the form of various signs of aging. The signs caused by the sun are spots, solar lentigines, actinic keratosis, fine wrinkles and skin dryness, accentuated by the lack of good hydration.

Likewise, there is also a progressive loss of volume and thinning of the skin and subcutaneous tissue, with underlying structures such as veins, tendons and bones becoming more visible. The result is hands that are more aged than, perhaps, the face, neck and décolleté, an aging that may not be in line with the actual age of the person.

As we have explained, the skin on the hands needs the same cosmetic care as the skin on the face, neck and décolleté. Just as we moisturize, exfoliate and protect these areas from the sun from a young age, it is necessary to do the same for the hands.

For this, we recommend using specific creams for their care, taking into account the skin type of each one. Look for creams containing active ingredients that can help against blemishes, vitamin C and sun protection factor, as our hands are also too exposed to solar radiation both in summer and winter.

On the other hand, remember to exfoliate weekly to remove impurities from the surface of the skin and expose the youngest cells. In addition, it is advisable to use mild soaps with neutral pH and with agents that are not aggressive to the skin. Then, if you want to rejuvenate your hands, there are a number of treatments that can help you restore the youthful appearance you desire.
