What does cervicoplasty or deep neck surgery consist of?

The objective of this surgery is not only to tighten the skin or the musculature, but to sculpt from the depth. The same incisions are used as for a cervical lift, or around the ear and under the chin, but access is gained to the inner layers of the neck to modify directly:
  • The platysma muscle (responsible for neck flaccidity and vertical bands).
  • Deep and subplatismal fatty tissue.
  • Prominent submandibular glands
  • Muscular and bony structures defining the cervicomandibular angle

In many occasions the double chin is not only an excess of superficial fat, but an excess of volume in the area because the deep structures are thick: excess of subplatismal fat, thick digastric muscles or large and/or sagging submandibular glands. It is a structural problem. This treatment allows restoring the definition of the angle between the neck and the jaw, with a natural, long-lasting result and without visible signs of surgery.

How is it different from a traditional neck lift?

While the conventional neck lift acts on the skin and plastisma, the

  • They do not achieve results with liposuction or other treatments.
  • They are looking for a slimmer and firmer profile, without changing their expression.

What is the procedure?

  1. Complete anatomical assessment with study of the deep plane.
  2. Surgery under general anesthesia (about 3 hours) and one night of admission
  3. Discrete incisions under the chin and/or behind the ears
  4. Controlled fat resection, gland reduction, suturing and platysma reshaping
  5. Progressive recovery with chin support and specific postoperative care

When will the results be seen?

The improvement is noticeable from the first weeks, but the definitive results are consolidated between the second and fourth month, when the inflammation subsides and the tissues settle. The effect is natural and long-lasting, thanks to the structural repositioning in deep planes.

Am I an ideal candidate for cervicoplasty?

Yes, if you present one or more of these cases:

  • Poorly defined neck despite normal weight
  • Persistent dewlap or “heavy” neck with no excess skin
  • Lack of mandibular angle due to genetic inheritance
  • You want a more structural solution than a facelift

It is not indicated if the problem is only excess skin without alteration of
deep structures.

No. The incisions are strategically placed under the chin and around the ear, areas where they are very well concealed and are usually imperceptible once healed.

It does not modify the expression or facial features. Its objective is to improve the definition of the neck and jaw line, maintaining the harmony of the face.

During the first few days it is normal to notice tightness or a “stiff neck” sensation, which progressively reduces. The discomfort is manageable and improves as the swelling goes down.
