Frowning is a very common expression that we perform involuntarily many times a day. When we keep the brow furrowed, we convey anger or concern. The muscles responsible for this expression are located between the eyebrows: the procerus and the corrugators. When we are young, the contraction of these muscles is sporadic, and when we relax them, our skin becomes smooth again.
Over time, or in people who are very expressive or have highly developed musculature, the contraction of these muscles becomes more intense and sustained. As a result, when the muscles relax, the skin maintains the shape of the wrinkle produced during contraction. The consequence is that this constant look of anger or concern remains.
Our treatment consists of selectively blocking the muscles responsible for these wrinkles, the corrugators, which is called chemical neuromodulation. It is also extremely useful to take advantage of the resting state of this area to fill the wrinkles with hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid smooths out the groove and prevents the wrinkle from forming again by resisting muscle movement.
If the frown lines remain visible even when we are not frowning, it means that the skin has already formed a static wrinkle in addition to the dynamic wrinkle, meaning that a permanent wrinkle is already established.
The first step is to apply the neuromodulator, which achieves a significant improvement in the area, minimizing the depth of these wrinkles. In many cases, this provides a very satisfactory result.
If the wrinkle persists despite the treatment, a filler should be used. The most recommended product is hyaluronic acid, which is a gel injected with a very fine needle into the depressed area of the wrinkle, restoring the appearance of smooth skin. The approximate duration of hyaluronic acid is between 6 and 12 months (depending on the product and brand used) and it complements very well the prior treatment with the myomodulator mentioned earlier.
