Liposuction in men

Do you want to improve the appearance of your body?

liposuction men

According to the ISAPS (International Society of Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery) men are already more than 20% of the total number of patients who resort to Plastic Surgery to improve their image. Muscled and shapely bodies are advancing in this new Healthy LifeStyle or Fit Culture. The male sex has freed itself from certain taboos and prejudices of the past. and now shows a clear interest in the world of beauty and aesthetics. Within this group of procedures, classic liposculpture to HD liposuction have become the most demanded procedure in this group. An attractive body and a manly but sensual and aligned image has become the goal of great businessmen and men with great public exposure.

How is liposuction performed on men?

Liposuction in men is a surgical technique that allows reducing unwanted fat accumulations located in the body, such as: the abdomen (where with the new technology it is possible to sculpt a 6-pack or highly defined abdominals), the chest both to remove and to increase its volume, the waist or the sides of the back (dorsal region) and trapezius, as well as shoulders and arms (biceps or triceps). It is not an intervention to lose weight, but its function is to define the musculature.

How is the musculature defined?

An interesting feature of this technique is that the fat that is removed, once processed, can be used to enhance specific areas to achieve more volume such as the buttocks, biceps, triceps, shoulders, trapezius and pectoral region. This practice is known as Lipotransfer or lipofilling. The HD liposculpture is a technique that allows us to work the large regions as we have mentioned up to more delicate regions such as the double chin, ankles, etc. It is important to mention that the use of these techniques normally achieves a cutaneous retraction superior to the traditional methods providing a really sculpted or fit appearance.

The results are lifelong if the patient does not gain excessive weight.

Can I have liposuction?

The ideal candidates to undergo high definition liposuction or HD liposuction are men who lead a healthy lifestyle, who practice exercise, but who are unable to reduce the fat accumulated in certain areas of their body. This surgery is usually demanded after the age of 20 when they are looking for an attractive figure. This does not mean that any overweight man can not make use of this practice to benefit from it and improve their image on the way to a better body image to be accompanied by a healthy diet and regular physical activity.

Liposculpture surgery in men

  • It may or may not require hospital admission depending on the areas to be treated.
  • It is performed under local anesthesia and sedation for small areas or general anesthesia in the case of a complete modeling.
  • In 3 or 4 days you can work and restart progressive physical activity in 1 week.
  • The changes are immediately noticeable and will be seen more and more as time goes by and the inflammation goes down. There will be changes especially in skin adaptation until the 6th month. The fat removed will not regenerate again, but it is necessary and very important after the intervention to continue with healthy habits, such as a balanced diet and physical exercise.

Types of male liposuction

Classic

It is performed through small incisions with cannulas that generally do not exceed 4 mm and by means of a negative pressure pump that sucks the fat removed by the cannulas. The signs of scarring are minimal and are generally hidden.

This liposuction melts the fat with the help of the laser to be absorbed more easily and by means of the heat in the tissues to favor the retraction of the skin.

Ultrasonic

Thanks to the waves emitted by the cannulas, the fat is liquefied, safeguarding vessels and nerves. The definition is extremely exquisite and requires post-surgical manual drainage to avoid fluid accumulation. The skin normally responds with a good retraction as it releases permanent energy that is transmitted as heat to the tissues.

Postoperative liposculpture in men

It will be strictly necessary the use of elasticized post-surgical garments that will be worn all day and that can only be removed for hygiene (shower) for a period of 15 to 30 days depending on the case. Occasionally and depending on the technique, drains may be left in place. During the first days it is important that the patient moves around to improve the edema and avoid complications, although we are not talking about intense exercises.

Frequently Asked Questions

Well, both, because in reality they are the same. Liposculpture is the objective, what we want to do with liposuction, which is the technique used. If liposuction is used well and with artistic criteria, we have liposculpture.

The best candidate for liposuction is the relatively normal weight individual who has excess fat in specific areas of the body since firm, elastic skin leads to a better final contour after liposuction. Depending on the number and extent of areas to be treated, local anesthesia, local plus sedation, epidural or general anesthesia may be required.

It will depend on the areas to be treated but it can go from 1 to 4 hours generally if fat is also transferred to other areas. If the procedure is performed on an outpatient basis with local anesthesia and sedation, after 4 hours, after a strict control the patient can leave the clinic. If the surgery is performed in several areas, the patient must stay one night in the clinic and can leave the following morning.

When a patient comes to our clinic in Barcelona for liposuction there is always one question that is repeated: is it a myth that localized fat can be lost? The answer is no. Localized fat can be lost forever. Localized fat is lost forever with liposuction, but it can settle in other parts of the body if the patient is not careful.

The results of liposuction can be seen immediately after. However, they are more visible when the edema (swelling) of the treated area subsides, which happens after the third month.

After liposuction there will be some swelling and bruising that may take two or three weeks to go away. There is some swelling, massage and wearing a girdle is necessary, but the discomfort is moderate if we heed the doctor’s recommendations.

It is obvious that it will depend on the extent of the liposuction performed, in terms of extension and volume aspirated. Normal life can be resumed within a week and after a month the recovery is complete. Then the treated area will continue to heal and evolve and the results will be seen after half a year.
