Growth Factors

Its use is one of the most advanced treatments in rejuvenation. They are obtained from the patient’s own body. It is ideal for cases where the goal is to improve skin appearance, increase firmness, and enhance radiance. In short, they have a highly effective rejuvenating and cellular-stimulating effect.

Rejuvenate with Growth Factors

Platelets release growth factors that are responsible for stimulating cell regeneration, increasing the formation of new blood vessels, and producing new tissue.

Growth factors allow the reconstruction of damaged tissue, producing a reparative effect that is used in aesthetic medicine to rejuvenate the skin in different areas of the body, but especially the face. Bio-stimulation treatment is ideal as a foundational therapy incorporated with cosmetics and continues to impress experts due to its benefits and the excellent results achieved with its application. Platelets release these fibroblastic and vascular growth factors, which initiate tissue regeneration processes within the first 48 hours.

Additionally, it has a powerful anti-inflammatory effect.

Treatment

Medical treatment with growth factors enables a skin regeneration technique that, through the stimulation of fibroblasts and elastin, smooths wrinkles and gives the skin a youthful and firm appearance. Its application is recommended for more mature skin that has lost collagen and its capacity for cellular regeneration, but it is also useful for younger skin as a preventive treatment.

On the face, it is a natural and physiological treatment that uses the body’s own proteins, selected and concentrated, to repair damage caused by aging or sun exposure. Since the product is obtained from the patient’s own body, there is no risk of allergies or intolerance.

The treatment is outpatient, so it can be performed in the same consultation. After cleansing and preparing the area to be treated, a topical anesthetic cream is applied. It is obtained from the patient’s own body, and once prepared, it is administered through multiple microinjections using a very fine needle, in the form of mesotherapy.

The number of sessions will depend on the condition of each patient’s skin, with the usual protocol for this treatment consisting of 3 sessions spaced one month apart. After one year, maintenance should be performed, consisting of one session every 6 to 12 months.

Additionally, to achieve the maximum benefit from this treatment, we can enhance it with hyaluronic acid and perform skin stimulation with radiofrequency just before its application.

Growth factors need to act by stimulating the tissue; therefore, there is no instant result. The effects appear over the following days and increase as time passes. The maximum effect is observed 20–30 days after the treatment.

In which types of treatments is it useful?

One of the growth factors, called the “epidermal growth factor,” was the first to be isolated. This factor stimulates angiogenesis (regeneration of blood vessels) and increases skin thickness, restoring its elasticity and firmness. Additionally, it enhances vascularization in the area where it is applied, promoting the formation of new skin, reducing the effects of cellular oxidation, and eliminating wrinkles:

Facial Biostimulation

The targeted high-concentration dosing of growth factors administered through facial injections is the ideal treatment to enhance the skin’s natural rejuvenation capacity in this area. This technique stimulates the natural process of facial tissue healing and repair, replacing old skin cells with new ones. Rejuvenating the face, neck, and décolleté with biostimulation using growth factors helps eliminate signs of skin aging, such as fine lines, wrinkles, and folds.

Additionally, it has a powerful anti-inflammatory effect.

Hand Rejuvenation

Similarly, treatment with growth factors helps noticeably improve the skin of the hands, which are among the most affected by the loss of collagen and elastin and show signs of aging such as sagging, spots, and marks. By promoting the production of collagen and elastin, it is possible to restore the firmness and elasticity of the hand skin. Additionally, it can be combined with other methods.

Scar Treatment

Treatment with growth factors is ideal for treating keloid scars, acne scars, burn scars, and scars resulting from surgery. In combination with other ablative techniques such as laser, or filling methods like fat grafts (lipofilling), it achieves excellent results. Additionally, it helps improve scars in other aesthetic and reconstructive surgery treatments.

Treatment of Mucosal Lichen Sclerosus

Biostimulation has been used effectively on mucous membranes, especially in the vulvar and genital areas. Lichen causes skin atrophy, with symptoms such as itching, redness, and pain. It is usually treated with corticosteroids, which can further increase skin atrophy. In severe cases, the normal anatomy of the area can be significantly altered. Alone or in combination with lipofilling, biostimulation can regenerate the tissue, significantly reducing symptoms and improving the patient’s quality of life.

Other Possible Treatments with Growth Factors

On one hand, it can be used as a treatment for the scalp, helping to stimulate the growth of stronger, shinier, and healthier hair. On the other hand, it is used in other regenerative procedures for joint and tendon injuries. Its anti-inflammatory effect reduces or eliminates pain in one or two sessions.

Post-Treatment Care

Immediately after biostimulation treatment, it is not recommended to engage in intense exercise, visit saunas, or expose the treated area to heat sources such as hair dryers, straighteners, etc. In this regard, it is also very important to remember to avoid direct sun exposure and to use a high-factor sunscreen, such as SPF 50+, several times a day, both in summer and winter.

After the procedure, it is recommended to use topical creams that may help prevent papules in the injection area. In fact, the patient may experience some mild side effects such as redness, swelling, or increased sensitivity in the treated area. In these cases, ice can be gently applied around the area to relax the injection points, and the area should not be rubbed. For this reason, makeup should be avoided during the first 24 hours.

Additionally, the intake of anti-inflammatory and anticoagulant medications, such as aspirin and ibuprofen, as well as the consumption of alcohol or tobacco, should be avoided. In these cases, it is highly recommended to consult the specialist, who can advise on the most appropriate way to proceed after the treatment and, above all, provide guidance on the treatment process, expectations, and results.

Frequently Asked Questions

After a facial growth factor treatment, the face may appear younger, refreshed, and radiant, as the technique uses the patient’s own growth factors to stimulate collagen and elastin production in the skin.

In general, the side effects of the treatment on the face are minimal and temporary. Some patients may experience slight swelling, redness, or sensitivity in the treated area, but these effects usually disappear within a couple of days.

The duration of the effect of the treatment can vary from patient to patient, but generally, results can last between six months and one year. It is important to note that multiple sessions may be required to achieve the desired results.

The results of facial PRP treatment are usually visible starting two weeks after the procedure, although the skin regeneration process can continue for several months.

Both treatments have different objectives and are effective in different areas of the face. Myomodulation is mainly used to reduce dynamic expression lines caused by muscle contraction. On the other hand, biostimulation is used to rejuvenate the skin, improve its texture, reduce dark spots, and stimulate collagen production. Therefore, the choice between myomodulation and biostimulation will depend on the treatment area and the desired outcome.

Hyaluronic acid and growth factors are different treatments, and both can be effective in improving the appearance of the skin. Hyaluronic acid is used to enhance facial volume and smooth wrinkles. Growth factors, on the other hand, are used to improve skin texture, reduce dark spots, and stimulate collagen production. The choice between hyaluronic acid and growth factors will depend on the treatment area and the desired outcome.
